How to Level an Above Ground Pool with Water in it

By Leave a Comment

Children play on the Above Ground Pool

An unlevel pool can be a significant issue as the water tends to press more vigorously on one side of the pool. As a result, the water’s weight will cause damage to the walls and liner of your pool and eventually collapse.

Luckily, you can easily resolve the problem even if your pool has water in it. This means that you can still have fun with family or friends during hot summer days.

Causes of an Unleveled Ground Pool

Before making any haste recommendations, you need to figure out why your pool is unlevel, so you can apply an ideal solution. The reasons may include:

  • The Ground is Unstable

What a strong ground means is that it should be hard enough to withstand the weight of your swimming pool. To be precise, it should not be on a high water table, very unstable soil, or wet ground.

  • The Ground is Sloping

Believe it or not, your swimming pool can tilt even if the ground appears to be flat. Even half a centimeter can affect the leveling of your pool. Therefore, first, check if the pool leans on one side before beginning the process of leveling it.

Leveling an Above Ground Pool

After checking the causes, you can figure out how to level an above-ground pool with water. The process can be very difficult since you have to consider getting some weight off one side and distributing it evenly. But once you handle the problem cleverly, you’d be able to beat the hot weather of the summer season.

However, you also need to know how unleveled your pool should be before starting the procedure. If your pool is under 1 inch, then it is not likely to cause problems so there is no need for leveling. On the other hand, if it is more than an inch off, the instant repair is required as it may lead to pool damages and injuries.

Unfortunately, suppose the pool is off by 2-3 inches or more. In that case, you will have to empty the pool, disassemble it, and landscape all around.

To begin the procedure, you will need the following tools:

  • Protective glove
  • Hose
  • Filler
  • Shovel

After gathering the items, follow these steps on how to level an above ground pool with water in it:

Step #1: Drain the Pool

First, you need to drain the water from your pool halfway. This is to ensure that you lift some weight off one side.

Step #2:Remove the blocks

During the setup, blocks are placed under the slab for leveling. Therefore, the second step would require you to identify the tilting section, then remove the blocks from the lower side.

Step #3: Raise the Sagging Sides

You’ll need a shovel to raise the tilting sides for this part. Simply pry under the slab, then push the shovel down to lift the wall.

Step #4: Add New Blocks

This step requires someone else to replace the blocks at the base while you raise the angle of the tilting side. Then repeat the same process on every sloping side.

Step #5: Fill the Hole

Typically, a hole is left after lifting the walls. Therefore, ensure you fill the hole with soil, then use a hose to pack it tightly with water.

Step #6: Fill Your Pool

The last step is to refill the pool to the required or preferred water level.

Final Words

Ensure that you perform every step cautiously. Otherwise, your pool will not be strong enough, and you’d have to redo the whole process. The main goal is to ensure that the weight is evenly distributed on all sides.
