How to Wash Clothes in the Bathtub

When you mention washing clothes, you always think about doing laundry in a washing machine or a basin, right? Well, there’s another way of doing so – washing clothes in your bathtub! No matter what your reasons are for using your bathtub, choosing this option is as easy as using the common methods. Here are your simple steps as your guideline:

  1. Prepare Your Tub

The first thing to do is prepare and plug your bathtub. Remove any items that may hamper your process. After you’ve gathered your dirty clothes, fill your tub enough to cover all of the clothes. Take note though that the temperature of the water should be in line with the washing instructions for your clothes, especially the special ones that you don’t want to be ruined.

  1. Prepare Your Laundry Tools

Now that your clothes are ready for the water, you can now prepare your laundry materials. Get your detergent of choice, and make sure that you check the laundry instructions for it. You can also prepare your gloves. Ideally, using gloves is better to protect your skin.

  1. Prepare the Water and Clothes in the Tub

Now, you can already pour in your laundry detergent. Put the desired amount depending on the instructions. Give it a swish. Make sure that you dissolve the powder if you’re using one so that you can maximize the use of your detergent. The more bubbles, the better.

After you prepare these, add in your dirty clothes. Some will add the clothes before this process, with pure water, then they add the detergent after. However, others will add once the detergent is mixed. Ideally, you let your dirty clothes soak in for a few minutes.

This allows the dirt embedded in your clothes to soften. Therefore, it makes it easier to remove. With a few scrubs here and there, you’ll see a difference immediately compared to when the clothes are not soaked.

  1. Start Washing

When you’ve soaked your clothes for a few minutes, you can now start washing them. You can do this by hand or use a brush to make the cleaning faster and easier. When using your hand, you can remove the stain by creating friction when rubbing the cloth to ease the dirt out. When using a brush, you can position the clothing at an angle where you’re most comfortable with. Regardless of what you choose, just make sure that you don’t do it strongly to ruin the quality of your clothes.

  1. Wring Out Your Clothes

Once you’re certain that your clothes are already clean, you can start wringing them out. When doing so, make sure to check if there are bubbles left. Some would wring out their clothes multiple times. You can remove the old water and replace it with a clean one. You can repeat this process until you’re satisfied.

  1. Unplug Your Tub and Clean Up

At this point, you’re now ready to unplug, drain the water, and clean up. Check for any bits and pieces of dirt on the tub after the water drains. Sometimes, you may see coins, strands of hair, threads from the clothing, and other debris that might clog your drain, so be on the lookout. As per your clothes, hang them out to dry. It’s best that you hang them outdoors or use a dryer. If you can’t, you can hang them in your bathroom, but it’s better to have a ventilated area for this.

Conclusion

Washing your clothes in the bathtub is not impossible. However, unlike a washing machine or a basin, it has its drain pipe, so consider this factor to not clog it up. Still, it’s not so uncommon to use your tub for this, and it’s a great way to pick when you want a spacious area for washing your dirty clothes.
