Our bathtubs are some of the best spots at home where we could just relax and destress when we want to. But, what would happen if our tubs aren’t in tiptop shape because of clogged drains? Surely, bath times would become more frustrating than relaxing.
If your tub is having the same problems, but you don’t know how to unclog it, worry no more as there is an easy way to solve this. Below are some great methods that are not only simple but very effective too:
Boiling Water Method
Contents
One of the simplest methods to deal with an unclogged drain is by using hot water. Just boil a pot of water – you want it scalding. Once it cools a bit, bring the pot to your bathtub and pour the hot water into the drain.
Now, while this can work like magic when dealing with shampoo and soap gunk, it’s not always effective with clogged hair and other solid matter Still, it’s best if you try this first because it can easily melt soap and shampoo that accumulated in your pipe, which is often the case with clogged up drains. If not, then there are other methods you could try like the ones mentioned below.
Plunger Method
For much more stubborn gunk such as matted hair, you can easily take them out with a plunger. Sometimes, if hot water doesn’t work out, you just have to use a plunger, give it a push, and take off the unwanted buildup of gunk.
To properly use a plunger, fill the tub with a bit of water before you start. It also helps if you put petroleum jelly on the rim of the plunger so that it helps seal and build more suction enough for the gunk to get removed.
Baking Soda and Vinegar Method
This is just like the hot water method, but it’s an upgraded version because of two more products added to the list – baking soda and vinegar. Start by boiling your water in a pot. While you are waiting, pour a cup of baking soda into the drain. Leave it for around 10 minutes. Once done, pour in a cup of vinegar as well. Leave it for a minute or so, then finish it off with your scalding water.
This is a natural method that is safe to use but effective too. Those who don’t like to use chemicals will love this process but do note that it’s for mild to moderate clogs. If your bathtub drain is much more clogged that this step doesn’t work, you can try the next method.

Manual Method
Not all will like this, but it’s another simple way to just remove the gunk in the drain. Before anything else, take off the cover on the drain. You may want to use a screwdriver for this, and make sure to set aside the screws once they’re taken off.
Next, use a latex or rubber glove for this, unless you don’t mind. The thinner the glove, the better so that you can easily grasp any hair or dried-up material getting stuck in your drain. Once done, try pouring in water to see if it’s effective.
Plumber Snake Method
The last one on our list is by using a plumber snake. It’s an effective tool that can easily remove the clog buildup in your bathtub drain. Just simply remove the drain cover and insert the plumber snake as deep as you can. Once you reach something, twist it around until it resurfaces again.
Usually, after one to three twists, it should do the trick, but continue doing so until the water drains smoothly in your drain. You can even add hot water or any of the methods above as an additional step to make it more effective.
It’s always a hassle to have your drain clogged. Luckily, the tips above can easily be done at home by you so that you don’t have to hire anyone for this. Give these a try!
