Best Permanent Above Ground Pool Reviews

Is it time to vacuum your above-ground swimming pool? If this is the first time for you, perhaps you feel lost on how to go about it.

Maybe you just want to ensure that you are doing it right. After all, absolutely no one wants to take a dip in a dirty pool. In any case, you are in luck if you have been wondering how to vacuum an above-ground pool.

With that said, check out what you need to know in this article.

What You Need to Vacuum an Above-Ground Pool

To vacuum your above-ground pool, you will need the following tools and pieces of equipment. Although some of them come with your pool and vacuum, you still have to ensure that they are in working condition.

  • Vacuum hose
  • Pool pole
  • Vacuum plate
  • Vacuum head
  • Pump basket
  • Skimmer water return outlet

How to Vacuum an Above-Ground Pool

Filtering and skimming help maintain clean water, but you should not neglect to vacuum the floor as well. With that said, here is how you go about it:

  • Connect the pole to the vacuum head

For this, you can use either an automatic or manual vacuum. Still, the former is generally more convenient and easier to use.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t really matter whether you have a swivel or stationary top because both will do. In this case, the pool pole will make it easier to access the bottom of the pool.

  • Attach one end of the hose to the vacuum

Next, you need to connect the vacuum hose to the machine itself. You should make sure that you use a swivel end on a swivel vacuum head and a stationary end for a static vacuum head. At any rate, the other end will be for the vacuum plate.

  • Place the vacuum plate over the basket

While this is not strictly necessary, it’s still a good idea to have a basket. After all, this will filter out the solid pieces of trash and prevent clogging up the pump.

  • Feed the hose with the vacuum head into the pool

After that, you need to attach the swivel end to the vacuum and put the hose and vacuum to the pool.

However, it’s best to do this hand over hand instead of submerging the whole thing in one go to prevent sucking in the air. Then, it would be best to prime the hose slowly until you reach the end, which should have water coming out.

  • Connect the plate

Next, you need to lift the skimmer door, push it out, and attach the vacuum through the top. While it is running, you should note that the door will keep closing.

However, all you have to do is push out the door and put the vacuum plate in place. If you have reached this part, you now understand how to vacuum an above-ground pool.

  • Turn off the pump

By the time you are done, you might find it hard to pull off the plate with all the suction. For this, the only thing you need to do is turn off the pool pump. Once you do this, the hose and plate should come undone right away.

  • Remove the vacuum

The last thing to do is take the vacuum out of the pool. Ensure you retrieve the basket and adequately dispose of the solid items that the machine picked up from the water.

  • Ensure that it is all clean

Lastly, while this is not strictly necessary, it’s still good to backwash and rinse the whole system once you are done. By doing so, you can ensure that everything has been cleaned.

Conclusion

Overall, it’s essential to practice pool maintenance to keep an above-ground pool in good shape. Unfortunately, people tend to overlook vacuuming in favor of skimming and filtering, but this process will make a massive difference in the cleanliness of your pool.
