Swimming is regarded as one of the most effective exercises a man can do. There aren’t too many exercises in which the entire body parts come into motion, and swimming is among those selected few exercises. To get in a good shape, it is important to perform exercises, which ensure movements of all the body parts. Losing weight and getting into a proper body shape is not going to happen overnight, and people are well-aware about this fact.
But, how much time is it going to take before they can call themselves fit depends upon the exercise they have chosen to get fit. Swimming is one of the few exercises, which are extremely interesting, and people who do swimming don’t make faces because swimming in the water makes them refreshed and rejuvenated.
It is very easy to get bored from doing the exercises, but if the exercise is in the form of swimming, then there is always something new and something exciting hidden for the people. Simply put, swimming is an exciting and perhaps the easiest way of staying healthy. But, it depends whether the person knows how to swim or not. If not, then he/she will have to learn it first. Now, coming to the benefits of swimming, people surely would want to know how exactly swimming is going to benefit them.
Well, I have laid out six benefits that can be obtained by doing swimming, here they are:
Boosting your capacity
Contents
When you swim, you use your arms, lungs and legs at the same time. You may not feel, but you are literally using all your body parts. What this does is, it improves the acrobatic capacity of your body. You become more flexible and agile in your day-to-day routines. I don’t think if there is any other exercise that boost the capacity like swimming does.
Strengthening your cardiovascular health
If you are obese, then your heart is doing a lot of extra work to keep the body moving in a flow. This puts a lot of pressure on your heart. Swimming helps in building your heart muscle due to which, the heart pumps blood at a greater speed. This in turn increases the blood circulation in the body, which is good for your health. Swimming on a regular basis can significantly decrease the chances of heart diseases. When your heart is healthy, your entire body is healthy.
Boosting the immune system and the overall health
It has been found that people who don’t swim are more prone to heart diseases, joint problems and obesity. When you swim, your body muscles become stronger, which in turn gives you more endurance. Your body becomes ready to fight against heart problems, obesity and joint problems. Heart and joint problems have a direct relation with obesity because a fat person will always complain about pain in the limbs, and his/her heart will have to put in more effort to pump blood.
Building Muscles
There is a huge difference between a normal exercise that you do in the gym or anywhere else and swimming. When you are in the water, you have to work harder with each and every stroke because of the water. To be more accurate, it is 12 times harder to swim than to working out on the land. Water creates more resistance than air, therefore, it is not easy to swim. But, with 12 times more hard work, your body parts become 12 times stronger as well. The body parts that are impacted the most are shoulders, arms, back and hips. So, swimming on a daily basis will give you stronger muscles.
Safe exercise
There is no risk in doing swimming if you know how to swim. You can’t find an exercise that is as safe as swimming. If you are swimming in a public swimming pool, then you always are in the supervision of a lifeguard or a trainer. If you have an in-house swimming pool, then I would assume that you are a decent swimmer. Swimming is an excellent remedy for joint pain. If you are suffering from joint pain, then you should do swimming. You are not going to feel any pain, but if you do exercises on land, then it will be very painful for you. To back my claim, I would like to give you the example of professional athletes. When athletes get injured, they use water for rehabilitation purpose because it is the quickest and the safest way.
Excellent Workout
If you are looking for a great workout exercise, then you should definitely try swimming. If you are a beginner, then you should start slow, i.e., 10-15 minutes of swimming is sufficient for you initially. Also, it is important to swim under the supervision of a trainer/coach. If you have been swimming for a long time, then you can extend your time according to capacity and stamina.
Again, I would like to mention that there is no other exercise that is as entertaining and as safe as swimming. You are going to get instant results, i.e., within days instead of months. Moreover, there aren’t any side-effects of swimming, so you can swim as long as you want without worrying about anything. You can involve your entire family, and ensure their fitness as well.
If you are fine with going to a public swimming pool for swimming, then that’s great, but if you feel as if you must have a swimming pool in your house, then you can choose from in-ground swimming pool or above-ground swimming pool depending upon your choice and budget. The main thing for you is to start swimming because the earlier you make the routine of swimming, the sooner you get a fit and a healthy body. But, don’t forget to check the quality of water because you don’t want to swim in a water that is full of dirt, debris and human waste. If the water is clean, then just jump into the pool and swim!
