Allergy Relief: Infrared Sauna and Allergies Connection

By Leave a Comment

Toxins and Sauna

Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common conditions that anyone can get. In fact, it is the sixth most common chronic condition on a global scale. Due to this condition, many patients spend hundreds of dollars on medical costs just to alleviate the symptoms. Of course, the main question is whether or not there are alternative treatments that can give allergy relief.

Fortunately, infrared sauna treatment is a pretty well-known alternative to alleviating allergy symptoms. The question is, does it really work and how well does it work? We’ll see just how well infrared saunas fare as allergy relief.

Diagnosis of Allergy Relief

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, allergic rhinitis, also coined as hay fever, affects up to 60 million Americans. Some of the causes include genes, airborne substances like mold or pollen, pollution, chemical cleaning products, dust mites, and seasonal changes.

In order to diagnose your allergy triggers, you can check with an allergist. Allergists usually provide skin tests to check for allergens. However, some of the things that you can check out at home to do a personal diagnosis include the following as per Mayo Clinic:

  • Frequent nasal congestion
  • Very watery noses
  • Itching throat
  • Leaking nose
  • Frequent coughing
  • Swollen skin under the eyes

These are some of the symptoms that you can look for to know if you do have hay fever without going to an allergist. But if you want to be sure, it’s good to pay a visit to one.

Allergy Relief Benefit of Infrared Sauna

According to a study by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, 31 patients received infrared light treatment for 40 minutes per day for a whole week. The study concluded that the patients had an improvement in their symptoms due to the treatment. This showed that infrared heat did have a good effect on the patients.

With this, the researchers concluded that infrared heat that come from infrared saunas could be used as a good alternative for alleviating symptoms.

The main benefit of infrared saunas, as per the study, is that it helps alleviate the following allergic rhinitis symptoms:

  • Itchy eyes
  • Nasal itchiness
  • Stuffiness
  • Frequent sneezing
  • Rhinorrhea

The reasoning behind the success of infrared saunas is its ability to heat the air around patients. First of all, infrared heat can kill unwanted airborne allergens that can be found in the area around you.

Aside from that, it causes improved blood flow and increased heart rate– both of which are good for overall health and immunity.

Conclusion

By taking a look at the study, you can see that it actually makes sense how infrared heat can work for allergic rhinitis patients. If you do have allergic rhinitis, then you may want to consider having a sauna session regularly. Alternatively, some stores already sell those portable infrared saunas in their stores. If you buy these portable saunas, you don’t need to visit one anymore.

If you don’t mind putting an hour a day to soak in your portable sauna, you should be able to alleviate your chronic rhinitis symptoms and keep them at bay.
